Motorbikers are welcome at Adventure Okehampton, as both centre director and operations managers own bikes and ride out regularly. Okehampton is a central location for riding out towards both north Devon and Cornish coasts as well as routes around Dartmoor. So, it’s a great place to head to for the weekend.
John’s favourite run, is up to the coast at Bude, where you can pick a great cornish pastie on go and eat it looking out over the harbour, then wander down beside the canal for clotted cream ice-cream.
The Victorian Goods Shed at Okehampton Station has been converted to modern hostel accommodation with a range of bunk-rooms with sturdy metal bunk beds, some of which are en-suite. The hostel is based in the Old Goods Yard, under the rail bridge from Okehampton Station, a heritage railway line, with occasional day trains, even the odd steam train for enthusiasts.
There is a car park behind the hostel, with a grassed area, which is the main campsite beyond. If you’d like more shelter, then take a bunk room or family room in the hostel. All residents have access to the main hostel facilities, with TV Lounge, Games Room and motorcyclists will appreciate the large Drying Rooms with dehumifiers, which can dry gear overnight. At present motorbikes are usually placed in the car-park or in the Marquee (if groups are not using it). But later this year we plan to add secure anchor points for motorcycles at rear of Car Park.
We host annual weekend meets for clubs, with exclusive use during the year, with local riders who can suggest suitable routes for the weekend ride-outs.
Based near Okehampton, there are several gear shops, if you need a bit of retail therapy:
